Hi Scotty. my name is Andrew and I been a big fan and subscriber to your channel for many years. I love watching your quick fix videos when I get stuck. Well, I was needing help with my 2005 Hyundai Sonata. Its got over 206,000 miles. All throughout last year, it would crank but won't start. Some days it'll start fine and other days it won't start st all, just crank. We replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, canister valve, ignition sensor, valve cover gasket, changed the oil & battery but still can't find the culprit. Some days it will feel like it wants to stall and does once in a while. It will run fine all day but as soon as you turn it off or try to start in the morning, it cranks but won't start. What could possibly be the problem? 🙂

You need to narrow down the intermittent Crank, No Start condition when it's occurring to determine if this is a spark issue or a fuel issue.

Next time it happens check to see if you have spark.

If you do, then squirt some starting fluid into the throttle body and see if it starts for a few seconds.

Once you narrow this down to either a spark or a fuel problem you'll have a direction to troubleshoot

Perform tests to understand your problem better. It gets you to the answer quicker, cheaper and more reliably. As you just learned, when you just fire the parts cannon, you end up wasting a bunch of money and getting nowhere.

Scan the diagnostic data to pickup clues

Look with your eyeballs to see if there's actually sparks. Again, this quickly narrows down the possibilities without having to buy any parts.

Test. Spray fuel into intake. With this easy method you quickly eliminate half the possibilities.

Progress on to more and more targeted tests

Measure with a gauge, to see if there is actually fuel pressure there.

Test the injectors to see if they're working

and so on...
