I got this car about a month back with 200,000 miles for $2000. It had a misfire but after replacing the spark plugs, ignition coils, and using some fuel infection cleaner it ran like a dream.
About 2 weeks after it running great, it suddenly died while driving it around 45mph. Now, it cranks but doesn’t start. The fuel pump is pumping, I tried spraying starter fluid into the throttle body, I checked for spark and it is getting spark, and there is compression. I also left the battery unplugged for the night incase it was a anti theft issue. Nothing, still crank no start.
I gave up and brought it to a mechanic who is telling me the output speed sensor on the transmission is getting an error code. Could that be it? Does anyone have anything else it could be? Surely this wouldn’t prevent the car from starting.
What is the specific error code? With that it should be possible to look up the symptoms associated with it.
P0725 - Engine Speed Signal
P0730 - Vehicle Speed sensor circuit A/T
P0703 - Break Switch circuit
P1701 - TCM Power supply
P0868 - Secondary pressure down

A quick search on those codes does not list failure of the engine to start as a symptom, however it does appear your transmission has some potentially serious problems. (That's typical of Nissan's Jatco CVTs. It's actually pretty amazing it got to 200K miles.)
You said you're getting spark, did the engine fire up with starting fluid? What are your compression readiings? If you have spark, compression, and fuel (even just a burst of starting fluid) the engine should fire up unless there is some kind of internal mechanical problem. If you have not already done so check the site FAQ section on diagnosing starting issues to see if anything there helps.
I've had issues of the same sort and had narrowed it down to crank and camshaft sensors getting out of wack readings with having 200k miles. Although when I replace mine was okay but began again. Finally narrowed down to very, VERY loose ground wire for sensors. Might want to check that out if you already have fire, fuel and compression.
