Thoughts on the 2009 Nissan Altima 2.5L automatic. My friends owned one for over a year now and is wondering if it’s worth having as a long term car.
Clarification: What is the current mileage on it, and how many years and mileage does he need it to last to?
No it isn't a good "long term car" because Nissan started using their crappy CVT transmissions in Altimas in 2007.
If you want an Altima, you're better off buying a 3rd Generation Altima specifically a 2005 or 2006. (2002-2003 had oil consumption issues)
If you want a newer one get one with a manual transmission.
yeah but the 5-speed auto transmissions were not as good as the 4 speeds but ok. Also, 3rd gen Altimas are notorious for rust, unless there is one with no rust, I wouldn't buy one.
And the oil consumption concern applied through 2006 model year on the 2.5 so that’s not accurate
I inherited a 2005 2.5L Altima when my wife's father died. It didn't burn oil. I only sold it because at the time I had 5 cars registered and insured and it was just a waste of money paying the insurance on 5 vehicles for 2 people
.
We kept it for 10 years and the car never gave me any problems.
It’s 12- almost 13 years old at this point so it could be hairy the car your getting… it could definitely be a good car or it could be a bucket you need to have it carefully inspected by someone you trust
Well depends on how well maintained it is and the mileage. If it's inspected by a proper mechanic, the engine, transmission, and everything else are good and you can get it dirt cheap, why not? Just don't buy it with 170-200k miles, since they will probably have problems.
