2015-21 Ford F-150 rear axle rust.

Is anyone experiencing this problem? My 2015 F150s rear axle to me has way more rust than it should for a 6 yr old truck. Trucks never been in a salt state. I’ve seen on some forums others are having similar problems and the other day at the dealership I noticed even their brand new F150 platinum already had rust on the rear axle. Seems to me Ford needs to check into this.

Are you talking about externally? Surface rust like this should be the exception but is unfortunately the norm. All you have to do is go into the F150 forums and loads of similar issues. Ford just doesn't give a rat's "you know what".

@toyotagrl mine is way worse then that pic. It’s seems to still be surface rust but I’m going to clean it up,  repaint it and put a aftermarket rear cover on.  This is a perfect example of where American vehicle manufacturing is at. It’s embarrassing.

That was a photo I found in the F150 forum. Must be a Ford thing, I remember my previous Ford ventures, my 99 & 2002 Mustang GT's rear diff and axle tubes were also rusty as hell and other steel parts. I just looked at our '17 Silverado and looks pretty good. There's a few surface spots, but you have to look hard to see any of it.

I have heard of this issue and seen some photos of some pretty nasty looking NEW trucks. Ford says it is surface rust.

IMO, they really need to look at their rust proofing because if they are getting surface rust now, imagine 5-6 years down the line in a northern climate. Not good.
