2015 Nissan Versa Note S CVT Transmission Issues

Hey Scotty,

My fiancee' owns an automatic 2015 Nissan Versa Note S with 79,600miles on it running a JATCO CVT Transmission. At about 79,255miles her trans slipped going 75mph. It revved to about 7,000 RPMs before correcting itself. Also, it's having a tough time going up hills & slight inclines. She purchased the car new and the transmission fluid has never been replaced. (To our knowledge) According to MYCARFAX recommended maintenance schedule, she's due for a "Drain & Refill" of her transmission fluid @80,000miles.

With that said;

-Do you think I should drain the old fluid and refill it with new fluid according to how much old fluid came out?  (or)

-Should I drain the old fluid and refill it with the same exact fluid that came out? (I believe I recall you saying that it's commonplace to refill the transmission with the same fluid that came out depending on the transmission type. I hope I didn't misinterpret you.)

Looking forward to your response.

well pretty much is a rolling pile of junk transmissions as the last ditch effort you could try changing the fluid but odds are it won't help much those crappers just break like that which is a big reason I tell people never to buy them

It's good hearing from you Scotty! I greatly appreciate the work you do.

I completely understand regarding those JATCO Trannys. I took it to Firestone today to get a diagnostic test done and trans flush. The master mechanic said there weren't any known trouble codes for the transmission. However, to be on the safe side, I told him to do the "Drain & Refill" like you suggested. The car is driving a little better but only time will tell.

I'll keep you updated on the progress.

Do not drain the fluid or mess with it. Honestly take it to the dealer as long as it hasn’t been tampered with you may be able to get it replaced under warranty or at very least get a bulk of the repair covered under warranty

Heyy R4nier. I called the dealership first before I took it to Firestone for a trans "Drain & Refill". Unfortunately, the service representative told me my car was out of factory/manufacture warranty. Also, they said even if I buy a warranty the transmission won't be covered because my vehicle came in with a pre-existing issue.

The manufacture warranties are as follows for a 2015 Nissan Versa Note S:
-3 years 36,000-mile Factory/Manufacturer Warranty
-5 years 60,000-mile Powertrain Warranty

Thanks for your insight on the matter. I appreciate it.

Can you send me the vin number because a lot of them had a warranty extension on the cvt and I can tell you what actual coverage you still have and not the generic base coverages
