Scotty,
I have a 2016 Subaru Outback 2.5Liter Limited 60,000 miles. Currently getting about 17 MPG on average. This is almost 10 MPG lower than what the EPA suggests it should be. We frequently remote start the car and let it warm up for about 15 minutes. Does this affect gas mileage? Oil was just changed, any thoughts on what could be causing this?
Thanks
Idle time does affect MPG as you are burning fuel but not moving. That is likely why you are seeing the results you are.
A friend has a 2017 Outback with the 2.5 and is getting in the mid to high 20s. I could see though that letting it sit and idle for 15 minutes or more (getting zero mpg) on a regular basis would cut into that average a fair amount. You could try letting it idle for just a minute or two instead and see if it improves.
