My brother is looking at a 2019 Acura RDX with 40000 miles for $30K. Is there anything in particular that he should be looking for besides the fact he should be looking for an older car to save some money?

For a vehicle who's msrp starts at $38,000 you are looking at a listing of $30,000 for a used one with 40k miles?

I'd pay less. Acura cars are just not as reliable as Lexus or for the matter Honda vehicles because of their engine and transmission issues. They are pretty solid cars but long term reliability is a different matter.

Like @daywalker said, this one did not have cylinder deactivation, but it is a turbocharged engine.

Turbo 4 cylinder in a heavy SUV + 10 speed automatic doesn't sound like Acura designed this car to last forever.

I mean I find 2015-2016 models for 15 grand so just by getting a 3 4 model year older, you can get a more reliable car (6 speed auto) that looks basically the same, and save half the money.

As with any used car, have a mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection on it, especially with 40,000 miles on a 2 year old vehicle.

See thread below:  it did NOT have cylinder deactivation (when you read the answer in thread below).  Also, regarding the 10-speed AT - jury is still out on the long term reliability (I.e. past 100/150/200,000+ miles) if you plan to keep this vehicle until the wheels fall off.
