Opinion on 2019 Hyundai Veloster

Scotty....   I have a 2019 Hyundai Veloster, not a Turbo, not the N, just the regular Veloster.  I love this car.  I don't notice oil depletion.  No codes on BlueDiver.  Do you have an opinion from a mechanic's point of view?  I'd love to hear it....

At the end of the day it's a new model Hyundai and their quality has been going downhill so I wouldn't be surprised if it starts having issues eventually and sooner than expected. If you want something that kind of looks like the Veloster then consider the Corolla hatchback; you have automatic and manual option with it. Right now the market is crazy when it comes to used cars so see what places like Carmax, Carvana, etc. will offer you for it and then get a Corolla hatchback instead; you'll be a lot happier in the long term.

Hi,

First of all Hyundai-Kia aren’t on par with Toyota-Honda as far as quality, (but a lot of models are still not bad at all)

and within their model range and powertrain options there’s a lot of variance.

with that in mind:

I know people who have 2.0L 150 horsepower Veloster and they love them.
Good old Naturally aspirated efficient NU engine mated to conventional auto (/manual) makes for a dependable, efficient, and a reasonably quick combo.

it’s not as fast as other options but it’s smooth, powerful enough to get around, and it’s considered very mechanically solid.

Even the T-GDI engines aren’t that bad by themselves. they’re very inexpensive for the power they offer but the trade-off is oil consumption.

Not terrible, but really not great.

The only ones I’d consider bad are ones with DTCs. From my experience Hyundai makes extraordinarily crappy dual clutches.
