The Tucson has similar stats and is very luxurious whereas the Toyota is much more simple on the interior and has a more discernible whine from the cvt. Looking for something in between as the Toyota has better handling IMO but the tech is impressive in the Hyundai at similar prices. My concern is the Tucson engine as this is a new model year with a new engine. Any flags you can think of to dissuade the attractiveness of the Hyundai product? I currently drive a 2008 Acura CSX and love it but it’s got limited years left especially here in Canada where there’s more salt than roads for practically 6 months of the year and I’m looking for something slightly bigger. A little worried about oil dilution history in the Honda CR-V but I’ve had good history with Toyota products and dealers in the past. Hybrids are also attractive given the higher fuel costs north of the border in eastern Canada. Thoughts?

I would never chose a Hyundai. Just do some research and you will see how bad they are. Hybrids can be okay  but if you want to keep the car as long as possible the gas version would be better.

Stick with the Toyota, or look at a Mazda as their reliability is up there behind Toyota/Honda.  If you plan to keep the Mazda well beyond warranty, just avoid the engines (2.5L naturally aspirated I4s) as they have cylinder deactivation from model year 2018-present (against just those engines, but 2017 and earlier 2.5L NA I4s didn’t have cylinder deactivation).

As for Hyundai, this should be more than enough to dissuade you from that brand:

Don't even consider a Hyundai/Kia. No amount of tech matters when you are stuck roadside.
