I have a random question,
Say if I were in the market to buy a car that offered the best and smoothest possible ride, what class of car should I get? I am not asking which brand offers the best ride, purely what type of car offers the best ride (sedan, full size sedan, compact, sub-compact, SUV, truck, etc.)?
Thank you!!
I have to admit, the best ever riding vehicle I was in, was a van.. But my god, I had to hold on for dear life, on winding roads.
I bet @mmj will give up good handling, for his van’s ride quality.
can confirm. Nothing beats a captain's chair. But it rolls like a fighter jet.
IMO, full size sedans are great. The longer wheel base, the smoother the ride. With that said, the vans and station wagons can give you a smooth ride if you don't mind the style.
Limousines - a long wheelbase and extra weight aid in providing a good ride, and more importantly, they are designed and built to have a cushy ride with spring rates and damping appropriate to their mission. The reverse of "simplify and add lightness".
It really depends on the make and model, and luxury or not.
But general speaking, I would say mid-size sedan and up, and mid-size SUV/crossover and up, give the better and smoother rides because: more space, usually better seats, and stronger engines / transmissions that don’t struggle.
Subcompact are just point A to B cars. Little regard to comfort.
Compacts have gotten better over time, but most compacts I sit in don’t have the most comfortable seats.
Sports cars aren’t comfortable.
Trucks, Real SUV’s, and Real Vans are pretty comfortable, but a pain to drive where I live because they are bigger, and the roads suck.
A Luxury Sedan.
It really depends on your use from the car and which exact car you are considering. I have a 2022 Civic and I find it very roomy and comfortable and smooth ride. But on the other hand the Corolla which is in the same category has a smaller interior and I test drove it and didn't like it at all. If for a family then yeah full size sedans are the best option or an suv you need that. So it really depends on the car and your use from it.
