BMW x1, x3?

I'm thinking about picking up a slightly used, current generation, BMW X1 or X3 in in the not too distant future to replace my daily driver. How bad are these things? I really want a fun but functional vehicle like a small truck or small SUV.

I love my old '07 328i With 174,000 miles but I only picked it up for a weekend toy.

As the olden saying goes: … "the old lady in the woods didn’t have enough trouble, so she went to market to pick up yet another piglet!"

Look, … beemers are fantastic drivers (X1 and X3 excepted!) if and when all just have been corrected/fixed, … and you, sir, already own one!

Enjoy that one to the fullest, … but look for a daily, mundane driver elsware!

I would not get either one esp. as a daily driver.  They are endless money pits over time esp. out of warranty.  Lots of cheap plastic and electronics that will break on you and will be expensive to fix (both parts and labor).  Now if you were a BMW mechanic or a BMW-enthusiast DIYer who knows how to work on these vehicles and can get parts for wholesale prices and do all the labor himself then I might say sure.  But otherwise, if you really like those vehicles get it under a lease and definitely under a warranty (BMW warranty not 3rd party) at all times.

I’ve herd they’re the most unreliable Bmws ever. Especially the X1, and their engines don’t even sound nice or run smooth at all…

Those are horrid cars. They could be decent for the first 4 5 years, but after that they are endless money pits. If you get one only a couple years old the resale wouldn't have been low enough, and it would fall apart and loose all of its value during YOUR ownership.

Lol 🤣I bet scotty would tell me to buy a Toyota.

Well, he would recommend to lease it which is the best way to own a German vehicle.

I had a 2007 BMW X5 as a daily driver for 4 years, 2016-2020.  I spent more money on repairs and maintenance on the X5 in four years than 21 years of my 1999 Honda Accord I owned since the beginning.

While they drive great, they are $$$ to maintain as a daily driver.

If I had to pick, I would probably get the X3, but don't buy either and expect it to last forever. The X1's were rolling piles of junk, because they were poorly engineered cars.
