I'm trying to buy a brand new car (manual transmission) and I'm thinking of a few. My budget is around 30k and I'm thinking between 2021 Honda Civic Hatchback, 2021 Mazda 3 Hatchback, 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Fastback, 2020 Toyota 86, 2020 Subaru BRZ, 2021 Subaru WRX, and a 2020 Nissan 350z. Any feed back on why and why not I should buy these cars. Thanks so MUUUUUCCHH!!

I live in Seattle so it's not that practical to drive a manual but I still want a manual. I'm not a racer but I want a sporty look for my car. I drive 20 - 30 miles a day on average. And I'm reeeeally thinking between the civic, mazda3, mustang, or BRZ

Hoho, I know, in Seattle downtown there are many steep hills {black}:scared:

Yeah it's a nightmare! Thank god new cars have those hill assist feature haha

I’ll take the civic, but just make sure to avoid this engine......

Yeah I saw this video today actually!

I would take the Mazda 3 because my choices would be 1. Honda 2. Mazda but the Civic hatch has the 1.5T engine which is prone to oil dilution and the Mazda 3 is the next best choice but make sure it doesn't have cylinder deactivation. Normally Toyota would be first but the Toyota 86 has a BMW engine and platform so I won't recommend it.  Definetly not the Ford. mod_man can tell you horror stories of them. Maybe the WRX as well but the Mazda could last longer.

The Toyota Supra has the BMW engine and platform. The 2020 Toyota 86 has the Subaru 4-cylinder boxer engine 4U-GSE. The 86’s counterpart is the Subaru BRZ.

Yep, my bad,

So in terms or reliability, mazda3, civic, or 86/BRZ?

yes

Toyota Corolla sedan or hatchback with the manual transmission would be my choice. Just ,because you live in Seattle or any other hilly area . I would not worry, all modern day manuals have Hill holder clutches, unlike my old 1977 Chevette what pile of (censored) that thing was...

Oh, even buying new you going to have Order a manual. Lack of demand means dealers usually do not stock manuals

I've owned mostly all manuals in my life. Used the emergency brake when I had to on the hills....I remember when I went from the pedal emergency brake on a truck to a console emergency brake on a celica, I thought I had hit the lottery.

Yeah I love manual cars but I havent driven them in a long time tahts why the new car im buying has to be a manual and I am really considering what would be the best fit for me

Toyota, Mazda and Subaru would be my 3 choices if I was in your shoes.

Yeah I love the look of the 86/BRZ but my friend told me if im buying that, then im better of with the mustang

Your definetly not better off with the Mustang, proof: @mod_man The Toyota 86 is just a BMW neither are extremly reliable

DO NOT BUY A MUSTANG.

especially the ecoboost ones are horrid run away, they tend to fall apart

Mod_man: I don't think you would want to deal with this:

3. 2018 Ford Mustang GT - 8,000 miles. The ECM took a dump and had to be reprogrammed.

4. 2018 Ford Mustang GT/CS - 5 miles. Driver's side seat rail bolt came out on my ride home from the dealer. That was fun.

5. 2018 Ford F150 XLT SuperCrew 5.0L - Oh bother.

1. 2,000 miles - burning oil. Did dealer test. New block installed.

2. 4,500 miles - burning oil, hood became misaligned, transmission slipping. Dealer requested replacement motor from Ford. Denied. I tried to Lemon it through Ford. Denied.

3. 6,000 miles - engine 2 literally grenades, leaving me stranded hours from home. Trans problems worsen. Towed to dealer who tells Ford it is a lemon. Ford denies claim.

4. 4 months of waiting, rentals, and litigation. Ford settles the day we were due in court.

Those are my worst experiences.

I'm definitely getting different perspective here! I so appreciate that! So what is exactly wrong with mustang?

I edited my comment above check it out that should answer your question

Karem did a great job answering your mustang question mikoMaru. I am very concerned about Ford relying on and pushing these ecoboost motors. To much tech paired with really cheaply built motors.

Oh my goodness Karem! That's terrible. Now I'm a little skeptical with buying a mustang :O

What are your priorities with the vehicle?  Are you looking for what will last the longest (so best reliability), is carrying passengers in the backseat important?  Are you going to get rid of in a few years?  Any other constraints?

Hey DayWalker, love the username LOL (south park??)

I really love the coupe style. Honestly, my number 1 choice is a 2020 Honda Civic Si Coupe but they're nowhere to be found. And im really just looking at buying a brand new car.

I'd say that I want to use the car for as long as I can. (5+ years if i dont get tired of it) Backseat isn't as important as long I have 4 seats and I can put groceries in my trunk and in the back seat. My usual passenger is just my gf

I’d go with either the Toyota 86 or Honda Civic Hatchback. Both are good choices. Drive both and see which you like. Also, check insurance on each before you buy!

Those are my top picks too (based on looks). Thanks for the feedback!

@mikoMaru the Toyota 86 does NOT have BMW engine or platform. I think Kerem was confusing with the Toyota Supra! The 2020 Toyota 86 has the Subaru 4-cylinder boxer engine 4U-GSE. The 86’s counterpart is the Subaru BRZ.

I'd get the civic if its a good engine and not one to avoid.  Would you consider a Toyota Corolla hatchback?  Thats my intended new car if and when my current car conks out...hopefully years down the road.

its nice but im not a fan of the corolla's looks

None of the above.  Instead buy a used neo-classic like a Honda S2000, Mustang Shelby GT500 or whatever catches your fancy.  Keep it in good shape and you may just make money in the long run, not lose to depreciation.

His budget is 30k.
