Scotty and Ask Scotty community, I appreciate your advice about my 2009 Cadillac SRX. The timing chains have gone out at 180,000 miles and instead of replacing that and fixing the head and gasket, I would prefer to replace the 3800L 6cyl engine with a Northstar V8. Would it match up with the motor mounts and the transmission? Is this a worthwhile idea?
That is a horrible idea unless you love setting money on fire. A different engine is going to cost thousands and thousands of dollars. You're better off finding the same engine that came in the car and even then it's going to be expensive to swap that engine alone. Honestly at that point i'd sell the car to a junkyard and find something better. Either way gl
I agree with Jacksonishere,
Also the Northstar engines have tendency for blowing headgasket. This is another headache besides labor and cost of swapping the engine.
This is difficult for me. I bought what I thought was a good car, again. And it’s let me down. I have over $9000 invested in cars and y’all give me no hope. I thought the north star was a good engine because we have a friend who put one in an airplane and it runs great!
Thank you all for the input and confirmation that before I found Scotty Kilmer I didn’t know anything about cars. Now I know better and will not spend so much on my next car.
