Hello! I have a Hyundai Santa Fe from 2010 AWD V6 3.5L automatic and 180.000km with the remote starter Compustar 1WAMR -1600.
Question: Can the remote starter cause the car starter to fail?
My car had a problem starting, it was clicking and struggling to start but after 30 sec it would start perfectly. The dealer (Hyundai dealer) asked me if they could remove the remote starter to see if the remote starter is the problem. He called me and told me that the remote starter was fine and that the problem was the car starter. He replaced the car starter (for $1000CAD ), but my remote starter disappeared. When I asked the dealer to give me back my remote starter they changed the story and told me that my remote starter actually caused the starter to fail, and that is why they haven't put it back even though they clearly told me first that my remote starter was ok. So I tried to search if the remote starter can cause the car starter to fail and I couldn't find any information.
They offered me to put a new remote starter for $660.00CAD
Thank you.
You got charged $1000 to replace a starter that costs $185 at AutoZone? WOW!! It sounds like this stealership is putting you through the Canadian Grease. I seriously doubt your remote starter had anything to do with the starter, based on the double talk you're getting from the dealer.
If you're talking about an aftermarket remote starter those can play havoc with the electrical systems on modern cars even when installed correctly, and you can't count on installers knowing what they are doing.
