So, I have a few quick questions that I would love to get some expert opinions on:
1. Are all CVT transmissions bad (2011-2019) bad or just certain ones? I read that they are bad transmissions, especially from Honda.
2. Between a 2013 Lexus RX350 (101k mileage) $16,000 , 2013 Toyota Highlander (100k mileage) $15,000, and a 2014 Toyota Rav4 (118k mileage) $12,000, which seems to be the better buy?
And if you have an explanation of why, that would be helpful as well.

I have the same cars in mind. My concern if repair need is Lexus garage cost going to be expensive?
CVT's can be very usable when maintained properly and use normally or conservatively. But because most drivers put excessive stress in vehicles and CVT's, and with owners who don't always get normal maintenance done, or done properly, CVT's tend to get bad reputations and fail early in their life cycle.
There are about 9 different designs of CVT's current in use in vehicles of various types (not counting RV's), and the ones generally acknowledged as the being the best are those from Toyota and Honda.
For question 2, The decision would be yours. However, due to age and miles on the vehicles, I's suggest you compare the using the 3C method (condition, condition, condition). Have each checked by a mechanic, record all details and faults, get estimates for repairs, and only then make an objective comparison between the 3.
Hope this helps ...
