Hey scotty as a mechanic for so many years, how have you not caused so much wear and tear on your body? I'm currently in my 5th year as a forklift mechanic and I'm moble and on the road every day. Some days I can't take it. Do I just need to be patient and not rush? In my dealership time is money!
Well, I've got a permanent disability in my left knee and a picky back at times. But these days, I leave the back breaking stuff to my employees who are young enough to do it without swearing enough to make a sailor blush.
I'll still do most of the work on the fully custom jobs, but when it comes to moving materials around the shop....I defer to my shop foreman. If I had to do everything at work by myself I would probably be in pain most of the time. I know Scotty takes his time and that definitely is key. People I used to work with, other mechanics, would give me crap because I always followed safety rules like lifting with your knees, not twisting at the waist, etc. But now I see a lot of those guys worse off than me with all kinds of injuries and I think it was worth it to do it right.
Yeah money is great and all, but if your body is broken in the process it probably isn't worth my dude. Money today is cheap, but you gonna be living with yourself till you die. Might as well take care of your body and stay vigilant with safety precautions. I tell myself with a screwed up back LOL
More exercise will definitely help with that if you can get yourself to do so. That way your body can handle more weight and the whatnot.
