Cat Converter Issue

Hey Scotty, I love your sharing of your wealth of knowledge for people like me who don't know enough about cars.

I have a 2011 F150 XLT with the 3.5 Ecoboost engine; auto trans; 178K miles.  The check engine light recently went on and I got the P0430 code Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2 reading and took it to a couple places to get it looked at.  One chain store quoted me $750 to swap out my cat converter so I took it to another mechanic to get a second opinion.  The second mechanic (at a Mom and Pops shop) said that the cat converter on the driver's side was replaced by a converter that was not correct.  I bought this truck about 14 months ago from a dealer.  Should I go back to that dealer and ask them to fix the problem?

The second mechanic I went to said that to fix this problem they would need to replace both cat converters.  I think that option is expensive, but I also have not yet spoken to the dealer who sold me this truck and likely replaced the cat converter incorrectly.  What advice do you have?

Mahalo and Aloha!

Yes you should talk to the dealer. And check the warranty paperwork. Emissions systems are regulated by law, and the warranty for parts is usually very generous. They should have put the right cat.conv. in your car.
