Is it wise to unplug the o2 sensor above the catalytic converter and spray with carburetor cleaner inside to clean the catalytic converter?
I know i have to do it on a cold engine, but im afrait it will explode/ignite once i start the engine. What do you guys think?
Rav4 2003 2.0 vvti, 155.000 km manual tranny
Thank you very much! {black}:blushed:
I would not do that. Instead, use products that are designed for cleaning the CAT.
Unwise.
Why do you want to do that? Cat.cons clean themselves.
a mechanic tested my car with a obd2 scan-tool and it didnt appear that my car has a regen system.i used 2L of lacquer thinner at 1/4 gastank and didnt solve anything. my car is getting more sluggish by the day. If i want to remove the cat and then clean it it will be pretty hard since the bolts are rust welded very bad. what could i pour down the O2 port to clean the cat?
Is this a diesel engine?
I'm wondering why you think the CC needs to be cleaned. There are many engine problems which can cause it to be sluggish.
What was the result of the diagnostic scan? Did you have any faults or problems?
its 2.0 vvti gasoline, and no, the only code i get is P0420
gasoline catalytic converters regen themselves. All you have to do is get it very hot. There are no regen cycle systems. That's for diesel engines.
Why didn't you say you had an OBD code in the first place??? It's right in the posting instructions.
Search Scotty's Youtube channel for P0420 to get your answer.
If you added lacquer thinner, you have probably already done more harm than good.
Would this be a good solution to clean the cat? the bolts that hold it in the exhaust pipe are so rusted they look melted lol
