Scotty I listen to you daily and respect your knowledge. I have a 2014 Equinox (2.4L 182 HP turbo) made in Canada with 76k miles. I change the oil without fail at the recommended intervals and it does not burn a drop between changes. Maintenance and repairs for the car's entire life includes brakes (two new rotors and pads all around), a new battery at 50k, and tires about the same time. It runs like a dream and is plenty powerful. I do not drive it hard but it will go when I need it to. According to your comments I should expect this car to be ready for the junkyard any minute now and I just don't see it. By the way this is my first new car and the 39th vehicle I've owned in over 50 years of driving. I've had a have a lot of experience with old cars, trucks, motorcycles and vans, and a lot of breakdowns on the road. I've had Chevys, Fords, Lincoln, Buick, Pontiacs, Plymouths, Dodge, GMS, Nissan Pathfinder, Mazda, Oldsmobile, 2 VW Beetles, a VW Rabbit diesel. Am I just lucky with this Equinox or foolish to think it will give me good service for years to come? It shifts smooth, accelerates well and never fails me.
You are lucky and foolish, also you are at 76,000 miles. Give us an update again at 150,000 miles/200,000 miles. Also one data point does not all of a sudden make the Equinox a good, reliable car. I’ve beaten the odds on both my GM cars, but doesn’t make them any more reliable or even a vehicle to recommend to others.
Stay on top of all maintenance especially engine oil and transmission fluid intervals (every 3,000-5,000 miles for engine oil/filter and every 40,000 miles for transmission fluid/filter). Highway miles over city miles will help too.
Congratulations!
Count your blessings & continue to maintain her meticulously.
At that low mileage, most vehicles should be trouble free.
