In 2018 when they redesigned the Camry and they added the 8 speed transmission, they had problems with rough shifting, the transmission hunting for gears, and I’d even read about having to replace them in some cases.
Seeing as this is their 4th year building their cars with these transmissions, would the new Camrys be more reliable? I can actually deal with less-than-ideal shifting, so long as the car holds up over the decades as Toyota’s do. But with the transmission going out, I cannot.

I can agree with Scotty. I have a 2019 Camry with 19K miles and I haven't had any issues with the transmission. The car seems to be a slow on takeoff but I've read that if you turn the ECO mode off it can help with acceleration.

nah theyre fine toyota decided to add 2 more gears to shorten shifting points for better gas mileage. much much better idea then slapping an electronic controlled cvt to keep rpms to 2k all the time and drive rly bad.
giving a car a larger transmission that shifts a little faster is a much better idea then adding some cheapy made pulley with a chain like what nissan does for longevity and easier repairs
of course only time will tell with the 2021 but the issues they had were more minor issues of feeling weird shifting jiggling nothing major where the car actually breaks down and I would assume Toyota has figured that out they're pretty good engineering company
