I have a 2011 GMC Terrain 3.0L AWD, 100k miles. Seven days ago driving to work I heard a noise, pulled up to a stop light. On green, nothing. Found out I broke a rod, blew through engine. Seven months ago we had the timing chain replaced at 96k miles. A friend says if the timing chain is off by the slightest it could happen. The oil was always full because we had issues in the past with other cars.
Between myself and spouse, with 15+ cars have never had an engine blow.
Have you seen this before on a GMC 3L?
We've done research and haven't seen my car blowing an engine.

I see the reason was oil consumption. The oil was NEVER low. Can you give another reason?
No, because I can't autopsy your engine over the internet. But it seems to be a weak engine.

very possible it wasn't done right

Unfortunately that kind of thing is pretty common on post-bankruptcy GM vehicles. (GM is no longer the same company, that was the "old GM" which is just an empty shell.)
You're a Chrysler guy. Thanks for nothing because you're not explaining why. I can't find a reason for a blown engine on YouTube or any other platform for my engine with my reasons so thanks.
You're wrong.
I wouldn't trust a GM product especially after a bankruptcy. They will make everything cheap as possible to make sure they don't go into bankruptcy again. We had a 2018 Chevy Silverado that we bought it brand new and the tranny was shot at 120k miles. We even changed the tranny fluid twice every 50k miles. Even if someone gave me a GM car for free I still wouldn't own it. Toyota's are the way to go. Please listen to Scotty Kilmer he is trying to save you guys.
