Hi Scotty

I have ordered a new 2021 F150 extended cab Lariat with the 5.0 engine.  I've heard that this engine now has

A belt driven oil pump instead of chain driven, should I be concerned? I intend to keep this truck for 7 to 9 years.

The engine also has Variable displacement technology. It runs on 4 or 8 cylinders depending on load.

I'm also concerned about this, what did I get into? I didn't know this until after I ordered the truck. Ugh. I was told

that in sport mode it will always run on 8 cylinders is there a way to prove this with a scan tool?

The change to go with an oiled belt is a huge step backwards and a mistake GM made a long time ago. I guess Ford didn't learn from it.

But the 2018+ 5.0L's have plasma lined cylinder walls, so I would be a lot more concerned about oil consumption issues than anything else. I had 3 motors and 1 trans replaced in the first 4 months/6k miles I owned my F150. Wound up suing Ford to get them to buy it back. If you check on YouTube you can find many videos about these issues.

I would look elsewhere if I were you. Ford has been struggling with quality a lot recently. Even more than normal for them.

I’m sorry man, hopefully you get lucky and don’t have a bad experience with the truck. The only Fords worth even looking at anymore are the super duty’s.
