I have a 2011 Nissan versa 1.8L hatch back Automatic transmission. If the Automatic gear shifter has P,D,N,R,1,2 does that mean it's not a cvt? I took it in for maintenance at the dealership but they're always doing messed up stuff. What is the best way to check if my car has a cvt?
You have a normal automatic transmission. The 1 and 2 indicate a hold for the first and second gears. The CVT transmission does not have that, but just a low setting. I have the exact same car 🙂
All transmissions have a model number stamped into them. You can look up. But yeah, your shifter is an obvious give-away.
Conventional automatics have discrete gears. CVT's do not. (hence the name "continuously variable")
You can look up your VIN number and see if it gives you any information.
What does your owner's manual say?
It just says if you have a cvt put nissan cvt trans fluid if it has the automatic put nissan d fluid madic it doesn't specify
It took just a few seconds to locate the shop manual for the 2011 Versa automatic transmission online. You could see if what is described there matches what you have. You can also look for a model number or serial number on the transmission itself that can be checked. (The shifter you describe does strongly imply it's a conventional automatic transmission.)
