Hyundai Santa Fe burning oil so why did the dealer do a combustion test?

My 2017 Santa Fe with about 25000 miles on it is burning oil at the rate of 1.5 quarts per 1000 miles.  The dealer claims that running a combustion test and doing some type of cleaning will fix the problem.  I thought that the only way to fix this was to rebuild the engine or put a new engine in the car.

What do you suggest my next step should be?

Did you get a new engine?

These are diagnostic procedures.

He probably ran a "compression" test. It tells you if the piston rings are no longer sealing which would lead to oil consumption. If it fails, then yes the engine is done.

A carbon cleaning could help a little bit , but not a great deal.

Are you the original owner? If so, and it's still burning oil, then it sounds like they owe you a new engine under warranty. All too common a problem with Hyundais I'm afraid. At least it didn't burn your house down.

At least part of it is the dealer is trying to find an excuse to weasel out of replacing the engine.
