I know scotty doesn't like turbos because they wear engines out faster and I agree with that, but sadly the new broncos only come in 4 cyl turbo and v6 twin turbo.
Which one would scotty recommend? Because on one hand you got a 4 cyl turbo carrying a body on frame suv, but on the other hand the v6 twin turbo which has more moving parts and is more complicated.
so which of these 2 would you guys recommend for reliability and in general?
Never get the new bronco.! My boss's friend just got it here in Kuwait in Dec 2021 and had to return it Jan 30.
HE drives a lot. Within a month, there seemed to be some issues with loss of power. Seems like Turbo for the 4cyl engine already had some issues. HE gave it to ford for 4 days and yet again another issue popped with the transmission not shifting smoothly. And these are within a period of 6000 kms.
As per the law, within 10,000 kms in Kuwait, you can return a new vehicle for a full refund if not satisfied with the quality. And that is what he did!.
He has now got an LC300 Toyota Non Turbo and is much happier!
If you really want a Bronco, as others have told, just rent or lease it!
I wouldn't even consider purchasing a new Bronco for a couple of years. With Ford's demonstrable poor quality and a new, unproven deign and build, I am not interested in being a lab rat for Ford. I also would not be interested in any turbo equipped vehicle because IMO, it's just an excuse to put an undersized, cheaper engine in a vehicle that should have a larger displacement, naturally aspirated engine to begin with.
I would vote for the 4cylinder engine, one less turbo to fail.
@Doc is absolutely right. Ford quality has been on a downhill and I won’t trust either engine option for the long term, not to mention the 10-speed automatic transmission which has had issues in other applications and is unproven for long term longevity.
If you really want one you are better off leasing and then returning before the warranty expires.
Neither. Ford's track record isn't very good when it comes to their turbo engines. If you're really set on getting one...Lease it instead of buying one. After 3 years you'll want out.
Given the failure rate on that platform I wouldn't bother at all.
You'd be better off finding an 80s Bronco II (if you're set on a small Bronco) in good shape & putting in a reman engine. I believe those were 2.3L which were both turbo & n/a.
I’m with yaser. Word I’ve heard is the 4 is more reliable (but don’t take my word for it; I’m not a ford expert)
Whichever you get, the short version with the smaller wheels & tires will stress the engine less. And avoid towing.
KISS principle
Turbochargers are a wear item and they can cost thousands of dollars to replace. In general the fewer turbochargers the engine is equipped with the fewer costly repairs will be needed down the road.
I agree with everyone's statement. I would lease the Bronco before the warranty expires. IMO, the 4 cylinder turbocharged engine is better because you are most likely to baby it than beating up a 6 cylinder turbocharged engine similar to v8 muscle cars.
