Lincoln Town Car vs. Continental?

Hey Scotty!  I’ve seen you tout the virtues of the Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, and the Lincoln Town Car.  What about the Lincoln Continental?  Is that car as good as the Town Car?  If not, what are the differences?

Thanks!

Clarification: Are you referring to the 9th Generation (MY 1995-2002)?

They're basically the same car in late 90's early 2000's. Same drivetrain.  One just has more luxury appointments than the other.

You mean the newer Continentals? Have you used the search bar because I know I've seen more than a few people ask about the Lincoln Continental.

I would say the Panther platform is more reliable by far than this newer set up with turbo ecoboost tiny engines and all that stuff and they are being recalled a lot. Ford quality isn't there anymore.

Now if we are talking the 2 decade old version, then thats a different story.

I guess I don’t know enough about the Continental’s history.

The year in question is 2001, so I guess my question would be, up to what year the Town Car & the Continental are basically the same vehicle, and which is the more ‘luxurious’?

Thanks!

From the info given on Wikipedia it looks like a nice car. The 4.6 V8 was a decent engine and it looks to be a bit more luxurious than the Panther platform. I would see in person if its luxurious enough for you.

I like the Panther Town Cars myself, though I came close to buying a brand new Continental some time back before I swore Ford off for good.

Nice cars, but the price tag was ridiculous. I believe the old school Panthers will outlast the new ones by far. I also love a good land yacht. Smile

Question is about 2001 Continental, one that came with 4.6 V8 not the newer EcoBoost junk. (Looks like this) So what ya think about those?

Ehhh....I still like the Town Car better. Was never a fan of the Continental's styling. IMO, the Town Car was the more luxury oriented of the two.

I'm not sure which, but some continental's were RWD ans some were FWD. Plus the air bag rear suspension on some are prone to leaking. The 4.6 is a good engine but the intake manifolds are plastic and tend to crack and leak.
