[Solved] Maintenance on New Toyotas

Hi Everyone,

I've been loving the channel! I recently purchased a 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid AWD. The owner's manual says that I basically don't have to do any maintenance. It says to change the oil every 10,000 miles, the coolant at 100,000, and the spark plugs at 120,000 (plus the normal small stuff like rotate tires, air/cabin filters, and "inspect" the fluids).

I plan to change the oil every 5,000 (unless you think that's overkill) and I want to ask how often you think I should change the transmission fluid and the AWD differential fluid (neither are suggested in the manual). I know you suggest almost always to change at least the transmission fluid regularly. This car has an eCVT, which I understand is totally different than a normal CVT, so I'm looking for your advise on how often I should change it. Does your general 60k suggestion apply to eCVTs? Lastly, is there anything I missed that I should do that the manual doesn't suggest?

Thanks so much!

And tire rotations every 5,000 miles IIRC.

My friend has a RAV4 Hybrid. Very similar platform as the Highlander Hybrid. They did an oil analysis after 10,000 miles, and the analysis said it was fine for that specific vehicle with that specific oil.

Average oil change interval recommendation across all vehicles tested was about 6,000 miles.

TBH, I don’t think it will hurt to do oil changes every 5,000 miles. As Scotty says, oil is cheap. Engines are expensive.

I would just take all the mileage intervals and divide them in half.  It would really be a good idea to take the time to actually read all the maintenance items in your manual.  There are little things in small print that escape most people until it's too late.
