Hey Scotty, I hope you have a safe trip to and from Boston! I wanted to ask you, I have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe, 5.3L V8, automatic transmission, 150k miles. I was planning on doing the tune-up with new coils/plugs/wires at 100k but I never got around to it, but it doesn't have any kind of idle issues, misfires, anything. All I've really had to do to it is replace front wheel bearings, water pump, tires and brakes. I'm worried if I do the tune-up now I'll screw it up. Should I keep it as-is until there's an issue or perform the tune-up?

If you're careful and do it correctly, with the right parts, relaxed, with the right tools, that's the rub.

If the spark plugs have never been changed in 150K, it's time to do that.

There are plenty of videos on changing these spark plugs, coils, etc. Take a look at those, and see if you're confident that you can do a good job. Care and confidence, along with the right tools, parts and patience are key to successful DIY jobs.

BTW, "run to fail" is almost always more expensive than appropriate preventive maintenance.

I've done tune-ups before, I guess I'm just a bit superstitious
