Starting issues

Topic starter

I got an '07 Chevy Trailblazer LS(≈88000mi) that has had starting problems. It'll start just fine occasionally, but on other occasions it'll crack until failure. I've also noticed that my car isn't holding oil(burning oil I believe but no blue smoke). I had a new starter put in about a year ago and just recently had the transmission checked. The mechanic suspected a leak of some kind but couldn't find it. Fuel pressure is good as well. I'd appreciate any help in fixing this.

I guess he's not much of a mechanic. Check your coolant when the radiator is cold. It should always be full. Check your transmission fluid, and put UV leak dye for engine oil in the car and let it circulate for a few hundred miles. Take the kit's funky sunglasses and look around for leakage.

I'm having a hard time understanding what you mean here, are you saying it will sometimes crank and not start? If so, I'll direct you to our FAQ section. Car won’t start – Submit Your Question HERE – Ask Scotty Community (carkiller.com)

Change the PCV valve if it hasn't been changed in a while. You need to have pretty heavy oil consumption to notice blue smoke. Your CEL would also likely illuminate.

There's a nice section addressing starting issues in the FAQs .

Did your mechanic try to find the oil leak using UV dye? If the leak doesn't show up with the dye and it's not mixing with the coolant, it's burning it.
