A few months ago I bought my 98’ Camry LE from a tow yard, as a daily driver. Ever since I bought the vehicle it just runs like clockwork, however every time I go over speed bumps or dips, I noticed the sound coming from the rear of the vehicle, a creaking noise. I had it checked out once more by a different mechanic, and another, but every time they would always tell me something different. now I know the saying “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”, but these mechanics all said that it should be fixed relatively soon, but what are your thoughts what do you think you could be?
It's very likely your 25-year-old suspension bushings are creaking back there, or it could be shock absorbers. You can use one of the gadgets that Scotty has talked about to trace where sounds are coming from.
As a temporary measure if the suspension bushings are making noise you may be able to quiet them by spraying with ATP AT-205 "Reseal". However, whatever worn part is making the noise ultimately needs to be replaced.
