i have 2010 honda civic. I've changed everything in the front-end (struts assembly, lower control arms, axles, tie rods, tires, and rear shocks) now I am having uneven right height, my mechanic said it could be my rack and pinion, and the advisor in Honda dealership said it could be steering column. Any ideas what should I look for? Does these things could cause uneven height? And how much am I looking for to fix this. Im in NJ thank you
Have you checked your springs? Oh & find another mechanic.
What was the initial problem that made you change all those parts?
What spring should I check?
Yeah thats why I went directly to the dealership but things makes me think twice.
The reasons are:
Struts front and rear - are worn out
Tires - cracking due to age i belived
Lower control arms - passenger side were worn out so I decided to changed both sides.
Axles - make noises when turning
Tie rods - mechanics suggest when I said there some noise when I turn -_-
The coil spring which slides over your front shock absorbers. Which brand of struts did you use when you put new ones on?
I really hope you actually needed all those parts & didn’t just get taken for a ride..
I put KYB struts assembly. I bought that as assembly with strut and coil.
Yeah my steering wheel is a mess now. Did a lot of wheel alignment still the same. Other alignment shop pull to the left other pulls to the right. I really wanna get rid of it but mine has only 80k+ miles
Has the car ever been in a wreck? KYBs make good parts. Apart from the uneven ride height, what else is wrong with your car? Are your tyres wearing evenly? I hope somebody else on here can recommend you a good front end shop in NJ.
The roads must be aweful where you live
And you didn't say how many miles you have
In 2014 i bought an 1999 Honda Civic automatic from lets say a friend of mine in good trust. I paid 4000 $ for the junk. The car had only 43.000 miles on its mechanical clock ( now i doubt if those miles were real). The worst car ever. To make the long story short ,i sold it two years ago with 143.000 miles on the clock after i payed triple the amount i bought it just to keep it running. That's why i bought the brand new 2019 corolla EL cvt because i was pissed off from the junk. I couldn't hear the word used car anymore used to give me headache. But to be honest even with my new corolla (now 30.000 miles on it) i'm not totally happy. Nowadays cars are becoming cheaper and cheaper. Good luck to everyone in the future.
Right, planning to get rid of it soon. Planning to get certified pre-owned Si or Acura ILX
Let me add more into my story, I actually put 17s before in my 2010 civic. It was great but it feels heavy cause I just bought that in local wheel shop (you know knock off wheels that you could find somewhere) it was on my car for at least 6 or 7 months then I bought a factory alloy wheels from another 2010 civic but higher trim cause mine has originally steel wheels. I notice when I put the alloy wheel with new tires the height was uneven.
Also at the time I replace the wheels, I also replace the mounts all four of them. Cause my mechanics said the my mounts were busted, but I keep the original mounts in my storage cause it has only 60k miles on it. He charged me for 380 bucks which I found that it was cheap. And I realized he uses cheap parts cause my car was vibrating so bad at cold start specially now, winter. Does mounts affects the ride height?
