Hello Scotty, big love from Turkey. My sister has a 2008 Toyota Corolla MMT at 150.000 km with automated manuel transmission. She wants to buy a Honda Civic because she didn't like this type of transmission and I don't want her to stumble upon a CVT. Which model year would you recommend most?
PS: She had a Daihatsu Sirion with AT which she liked very much.
Selam kardeşim!
The Toyota MMT transmission aren't that good so your sister has thought well to get a Honda Civic. They are usually very good all in all and 2010-2011 would be my recommendation but as long as it doesn't have a CVT and it is a non-turbo engine you should be alright.
See here for more info:
(keep in mind its US models but might give you an idea of what to expect)
It depends on your budget honestly, in Turkey used car prices are through the roof so you might be forced to get a 5 10+ year old one. It really depends on generation but there are just a few ones you should avoid like 2006 and 2001 and other than that they are good.
Tabii biz türkler arabaları severiz...
Thank you for your precious advice. The important thing is to know which Civic has conventional automatic and which has CVT. How can I separate one from another?
You should be able to find information on the listing if not you could look it up online. Also, if you try driving it, the CVT would feel more rubbery and different than a conventional. If you still aren't sure, you could ask here and since I haven't driven one I can't really say how it is but many people could help you out.
Unlike Nissan, which use crappy Jatco CVTs, Honda and Toyota make their own CVTs and they are good, but due to the nature of these transmissions, they need more maintenance. With that being said, make sure you avoid the models that have issues. @Kerem has prepared a good list for various makes and models.
The years to go for are, Civics 2015 and older, they didn't have turbo engines with GDI (Gas Direct Injection).
