Oil dipstick stuck.

Topic starter

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7 Automatic, 132, 000 miles.

After relacing the head gaskets, tensioner, etc. I decided to replace the rusty oil pan. Which I have found out to be a common problem with Chryslers. Well, I did something wrong. My 10 mile long dipstick is stuck, will not pull out and I can't check my oil. Any ideas what I may have done wrong before I tear it down?

Again......UGH!

Get a small torch and heat up the tube around the handle see if it loosens

I will try that. Thank you.
I will post the results.

Heating didn't work, no movement at all.

was the stick inserted when you ra-attached the pan? I wonder if it kinked the stick when you did that.

Did you try twisting and up&down motion?

I tried pulling, turning, twisting, turning the engine upside down, lol. I tried everything I could think of I am leaning toward the explanation of it being kinked or caught somewhere and the oil pan, possibly the windage tray?

I honestly can't remember if the dipstick was in or out I'm thinking it was in.

can you get your hands on an inspection camera? Maybe you can drain the oil and sneak it in through the drain hole.

Hmmm, great idea! I will try to locate one. Thank you.

Performing a borescope inspection while twisting, turning and up & down motion, is not something I think I have the dexterity for..

me either. I would get help for that.

I have decided to buy a scope. I'm sure I can use it for home repairs as well. And no, I will not be doing any extra curricular activities while scoping. Now ask me about when I had to remove the factory alarm from my 95 Cherokee. Grounding wires everywhere, etc. I was in more positions than a porn queen! Common problem, new topic. {pear}:exhausted:
