[Solved] Rear End Stutter - '10 Santa Fe

My wife's '10 AWD Santa Fe with 138k miles has some kind of stutter that feels like it's in the rear end. It only seems to appear when accelerating at lower speeds and is happening whether cold or warmed up. Once on the highway at cruising speeds it doesn't happen at all. Looking for suggestions of what it may be.

Seems unrelated but there is a P0442 code from the computer being thrown on after being cleared.

Can't edit anymore. It happens at highway speeds but only when accelerating.

Since it's an AWD there is a pretty common problem with the rear differential, it could be the shaft that slips. You should jack up the car, so all 4 wheels are freely spinning and put it in gear to check if all 4 wheels are spinning, on a AWD they all should.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the advice. Is it a problem that solutions can be easily found or easy enough for a mechanically inclined person to fix?

To just check if those wheels are spinning, seems pretty easy right? jack up the car, put it on a few jack stands, I'm sure you can do that by your self.

IF all 4 wheels does not spin, you may have some kind of issue with your differential and if you are a beginner mechanic, I'm not sure if, you should try to repair it by your self. Better have a mechanic check it out. It's pretty complex systems.

Thanks again. Yeah I'm not intimidated by the car jacked up diagnoses lol. But at least if I have the issue narrowed down it will save some money when it comes time to bring it to a mechanic.

Thanks again. Glad I joined this community here.

That sounds about right! Good luck and Welcome!

If it only happens when accelerating odds are there's some type of problem in the rear of the vehicle if it is all-wheel drive the rear differential is probably having some type of problem

Thanks for the reply. Going to be nice this weekend so I know what's on the agenda for me. Congrats on the move. Watching your latest video right now.

Your rear differential is going out and that is not uncommon for these unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any way to save it? The entire diff will likely need to be replaced?
