2018 VW Golf. Dealer says no leak and hence no warranty but A/C needs recharge (it wasn’t blowing any cold air).
Is it not it a sealed system and although it may permeate a small amount over time it should hold a charge for more than a couple of years?
That really stinks. I just added Freon to my Sentra. It took 14 years and 100,000+ miles to run low.
It it only needs recharge, it should not be a big deal. You are lucky you did not have issues with engine or transmission.
There is a leak somewhere in that system.
I would:
1. Start a paper trail and note the day/time of your first dealer visit. Keep the receipt handy and note the mileage.
2. Recharge the A/C system. Keep your receipt and note the mileage.
3. If it runs hot again soon after, take your paperwork to the dealer and explain that it does have a leak clearly as you recharged it and it is blowing hot again.
At that point, hopefully they do an actual leak test and fix it. Otherwise, you'll need to start looking for an attorney.
Don't add any refrigerant to it if you're not sure it needs it. I was working on one about a week ago. Wouldn't blow cold. I hooked up gauges and the static pressure on both sides were the same as the outside air temp.
So I knew the compressor should kick on (for at least a little bit) when I turned on the A/C.
So I turned on the A/C. THe compressor clutch engaged and the low side pressure dropped to around 30 and the high side started climbing to 200.
But then the low side pressure started climbing over 50 and the high side was heading toward 300.
The compressor kicked off so of course, no cold air.
This car had dual cooling fans. When the A/C is turned on both are supposed to engage.
But neither fan was running.
I checked the connectors at the fans for ground and voltage. Both were getting what they needed from the relays but the fans wouldn't run.
So I replaced the dual cooling fans. ($115 Advance Auto).
Turned on the A/C. Both cooling fans immediately turned on as the A/C clutch engaged. Started blowing cold. Pressures stayed within spec. Took it for an hour drive and the A/C got so cold I had to turn down the blower a little because I was getting chilly.
So, the lesson here is not to add refrigerant just because the A/C isn't blowing cold.
In this case it would have been a big mistake and would have caused a problem in the A/C system where one didn't exist
Well, why buy a VW in the first place :/
Look i'm being honest and i think my first car which was a corolla(2003) Never ran out, and you are telling me that a 2 year old car needs a recharge, man that shows the bad quality of VW
Like Scotty says: "Can't fix ..." I didn't ask for anyones opinion about the manufacture. Gotta love the internet. Good bye.
