Replacing computer Lexus LS 400

Hi Scotty. Recently I asked you about an intermittent misfire on my 98 Lexus LS 400. You diagnosed it as possibly being a bad computer. I just watched your video on replacing the computer in your car and it was actually on a Lexus. Lucky for me. I do have further questions though on doing that job. Will replacing the computer reset the odometer on my car? Is there a way to transfer info from my bad computer to the new one or is that even necessary? Also, you mentioned that a new computer costs $2300. I've seen several online for my year model going for $200-$470 for the most expensive one. They were all remanufactured of course. Would it be okay to purchase one of these? Is there a website or company you recommend getting them from? Thanks in advance for the help!

It is not a good idea to be buy aftermarket or remanufactured one for your car computer no matter of the manufacturer.

Why would that be bad? I've never done this so I'm curious. Is a new Lexus computer really $2300? If so that mechanically totals the car at this point.

That’s their reason that most old luxury cars are cheap compared to their new MSRP. The repair cost is sky high.

Ive watched every single video of scottys, if i were you I’d put original computer or any other part. You never know whats the aftermarket computer or any part is like?
I personally purchased a 20 dollar obd ii scanner and before it was delivered i fortunately saw one of scottys video talking about these cheap scanners and how it ruins the computers in your car and I never used it.

I guess I’d be curious to know what they did exactly with the remanufactured units.  If it’s from a reputable company that fixes these units (and in some cases makes it better) it might be OK.  But you really have to research and find out what was fixed.  However, in most cases beware.

It is a very complicated electronic piece and you should never gamble on it.

I should add one more thing here: for a mug simpler part (MAF sensor), it is not recommended to use aftermarket or remanufactured one and that part is not complicated at all compared to the car computer module.

Some people OEM computer isn't an option for 2300. If there's a warranty, on the 500 dollar computer, maybe try it?  Not sure what I'd.do

Usually new computers have to be programmed to a vehicle with special equipment.
