Hey Scotty! I have 2003 Subaru Forester xs 4 Cylinder automatic. It has 194744 miles on it. When I bought it, it drive solid. It ended up overheating so I took it back to the mechanic and they fixed it (sorta) because they forgot to connect a hose that I ended paying 40 to another mechanic to figure out 🤦🏿♂️. Any who, I’m getting ready to move to Texas and I want to drive it while towing my Toyota. Recently it started vibrating a lot on the highway around 50mph and on the street around 35-40 mph, I took it to a mechanic and he suggested I change both front wheels which I did which helped a little. it now shakes around 60mph but smoothes out at 70 and shakes again around 75 mph. He said if that didn’t solve the issue, then it could be the lower control arms. Do you think its worth fixing it or should I just get rid of it? And what do you think the issue is? See you on YouTube! 🤩
I think you need to see a different mechanic. Vibration at certain speeds is most likely caused by tires not being properly balanced. Worn lower control arms could cause a variety of steering and suspension problems, such as clunking or wandering but they don't cause speed-dependent vibration - they don't rotate!
Finally, as to the fix or sell question - do you need 2 cars? Is the other car in good/better condition? I don't think towing another car with the Subaru is a good idea, as it is rated to two 1500 pounds, and most cars weigh at least twice that.
