Subaru WRX/BRZ

Hey Scotty! What are your thoughts on a 2016 or newer WRX or a 2013 or newer BRZ for a first car? (preferably manual transmission for both, but can live with an automatic. HA!) I live in FL so I don’t really need to worry about the winter season.

How many miles are you wanting to get out of it, and how long do you hope to keep it for?

A long time, and at least 75,000 miles

For a first car, the BRZ is better, for sure. Smaller, easier to maneuver, more linear throttle, lighter steering, no turbo issues, and much cheaper/easier to work on. More fun, too, to be honest.
The WRX can be a little frantic.  It has a lot of turbo lag and a lot of turbo boost; if you aren’t careful with the throttle you’ll end up in a tree. Not a good car for inexperienced drivers (I’ve been driving manual transmissions for 35 years and my WRX still scares me sometimes).
Look also at the Scion FRS and Toyota 86, which are the same car and will expand your market search.

Thank you! It honestly really helps and I appreciate it

BRZ on that one, preferably with a manual trans. Very fun to drive, good on gas, easy to park, and LOTS cheaper on the insurance.

Good point on insurance
