Hey uncle scotty,
i found your videos a couple months ago and was intrigued by your knowledge of cars.
so i have a 2007 toyota corolla with a sunroof and i noticed by the front of the car there is a plastic, almost ramp shaped piece that pops up with springs when the sunroof is opened. I noticed while messing with it that the car actually gets quieter when you push it down. Is there a reason this piece exists and pops up like that or is it something i can just cut the springs and enjoy the quiet ride.
thanks man
keep up the videos
It’ll most likely reduce fuel economy if you were to try and eliminate it. That directs a chunk of the air from going into the car that would almost cause a parachute effect and create more drag
I would say it's for aerodynamics. Air drag like was mentioned. And maybe to deflect splashes or debris from taking out a passenger's eye in the back seat.
I don't see any huge harm in disabling it. Just make sure the the sunroof is able to open and close without obstruction.
Yup it’s there for aerodynamic reasons. At low speeds, it’ll only probably help with keeping debris from entering into the cabin. However, at high speeds, it deflects the airflow to enhance high speed stability.
If you disable it at high speed, you’ll almost certainly have a pressure wave enter the cabin & cause discomfort to your ears (depending on how you configure the windows).
how would you know? you never open the sunroof in your 747 😆
Haha. Here’s some trivia for you, the area around the side cockpit windows & fuselage crown is designed to have relatively calm airflow, inflight. I don’t want to ever have to try it out, though..
Yeah, that’s one thing I’ll never do. Why would someone want to jump out of a perfectly serviceable airplane?!
do it! So much fun.
I’d rather be flying the jump plane..
