To change or not to change (trans fluid)

Hello Scotty,

I recently purchased a 1994 F150 automatic 2WD with 58,000 miles. I hardly have any info on the truck before my purchase. Should I change trans fluid? Change only the filter and refill? or leave it alone? Thank you for your time, I appreciate it! {black}:hi: -Todd M.

I would change the fluid and filter. Just drain and refill but don't flush.

I'd drain and fill it and swap the filter. No flush.

My 98 f-150 had 56k miles 5 months ago when I got it from my stepfather. He only drove it the first few years and then lost his sight, after that it was rarely driven.

I dropped the pan, changed the filter, then drained all the fluid from the torque converter also, thankfully it has a drain bolt on it. I think I changed 12 of the 14 quarts out of it with valvoline max life, that helped some. About a month ago I changed out another 7 quarts with amsoil, that is really smoothing out the shifting, although it wasn't too bad before. I am a few hundred miles shy of 60k now.

Not sure what will happen to yours, but I think those years also used the 4r70w transmission? I would at least do what the others suggested and drop the pan and change the filter. Mine was not changed before I did it, as it had the yellow plug that they put in from the factory.
