My question is at the bottom.
2012 Chevy Equinox 4cyl(78k mi)
Problem/History:
From a stop, transmission was slipping coming out of 2nd to 3rd gear. Engine was just revving into 4-5k rpm. When feathering the accelerator, it would shift 'normally' but with some hesitation. No lights on the dashboard.
Once the problem happened the first time, it was driven about 2-3 miles just getting it home, then a mile or 2 to the shop. Speeds were mostly 30-40mph, with a mile of 50mph.
Result of the diagnostic was the transmission cooler lines had corroded and the fluid level was extremely low. In fact, they noted a puddle under the vehicle when taking it in for service, I then noticed fluid in the driveway too after they mentioned it.
Fix:
They replaced the cooler lines and flushed the torque converter, transmission and new lines.
MY QUESTION:
Realistically, how much damage was done to the transmission? Am I looking at another bill in 10k miles when the transmission or converter fails?
Thanks for the advice!
If the transmission did get too hot it could have caused excessive wear on the internal parts. But it seems you didn't drive it too long like this I think it will be fine. Might consider selling it and buying something more reliable though. These are prone to electrical issues as well.
I don't think there would be significant damage.
