Hi, Scotty. I have a 2015 Toyota Camry with 30k miles on it. The car transmission usually slips on a cold start. After revving it a few times, the transmission runs normally. I took it to the mechanic and the transmission fluid was black, but at the correct level. Do you think changing the transmission fluid would help in this situation as my mechanic scared me off of doing that. He scared me off by saying that it will slip more. It is also important to note that the car was previously used as a fleet vehicle. Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you!!
I would pull trans pan check for parts (clutches metal). Sounds like it has more miles than shows. If it's that far gone I would change fluid and some Lucas trans fix. Nothing g to lose....but pull pan first, also id fluid smells burnt it usually a sigs of slipping clutches.
it sounds like the clutches are gone, and the transmission needs rebuilding/replacing. Judging from the mileage, it was either not working properly or abused.
thanks for your reply. So far it only slips on a cold start. I'm wondering if changing the fluid will actually make the transmission worse? Thank you!!
Trans sounds bad to me. Trade it for a new car, after trans warms up.
Depending on how much debris is in the trans pan...SOMETIMES in my experience when you do an ATF oil change and change the filter within...the trans won't shift anymore nor the car move but a little. All that sludge was the factor which made the trans move but now you have taken it away. Be prepared for this situation if you do change the ATF in the trans. It may not happen..but it can.
