In one of your episodes on youtube, you recommended a device that transmits a signal that you can then trace to find a short in the wiring. I clicked on the link to your store on Amazon but didn't see any device like this. I have a 2007 E63 AMG that I have been receiving various voltage codes off and on. Now suddenly my car keeps trying to call MB SOS for help, after multiple failed attempts, it then dials the local police 911 dispatch. I cannot figure out what is causing this to happen, and the only way to prevent it from calling the police (6 times I have had to apologize to them) is to disconnect the battery. When I reconnect the battery, it starts trying to connect to SOS again.
I am guessing I must have accidentally nicked a wire or something when I was removing the center console (armrest) and head unit to properly wire an aftermarket upgraded Android touchscreen. It was working just fine actually for the last year, however, I wanted to properly connect some wires that I wasn't able to during the initial install, and try and solve the only issue that I did have which was the CANBUS not working.
Everything I have read in forums suggests there is a wiring issue, but I would love your input. In addition, I would like to purchase one of those wire tracing devices, can you recommend one on Amazon or add it to your store so I can purchase from your storefront?
Thanks!
Aaron
I've used several but find on newer cars with so many harnesses and wires to be problematic. And that screaming fast E63 AMG... let's say it has a few wires!
Whatever component/part that is doing this may not be initiated by but eventually goes thru canbus to eventually make the call. I would concentrate on that canbus (and all parts of the calling system is likely handled over the canbus).
If ya fix it, can I drive it? Nice car but pretty complex and very expensive to keep going over time. I wouldn't even tackle it without MB diagnostic computer. Your best bet may be to find a very good MB indy in your area. Or start pulling fuses until that system no longer functions... problem is, important stuff may also be powered from that fuse. Google "signal tracer" and read reviews. GL
In my opinion in instances like this..you should remove what you installed and revert back to stock. That way you eliminate the possibilities of non-stock installs which could affect the vehicle in abnormal ways. Now after you uninstall those components and you still have the SAME problems at least now you can diagnose the components which are suspect thru the stock factory manual and its factory diagnostic tree procedures.
My thinking was the same and I removed everything that was installed reverting back to stock and unfortunately as soon as I connect the battery it begins calling SOS... I am at a loss now. Everything was working great, and this didn't start happening until I removed all of the aftermarket gear in order to properly connect wires rather than twisted and electrical tape and to install CANBUS connection.
Have you investigated or searched MB sites or forums in regards to CANBUS issues in general ?
Tried this procedure?
o turn off the SOS warning, shut off the engine and then turn the key back on. Then turn on the headlights and leave them on for two minutes. Then turn them off and turn off the key. The message may still there at the time but will be gone the next morning.
I will give that a shot... I just reverted everything back to stock and still tries to connect to SOS as soon as I connect the battery...
Well, I have just uncovered the origins of the phrase "scared the sh*t out of me"! Apparently, when examining wires in the center console behind the ashtray of a w211, you are not supposed to fiddle with certain ones. I live on 2 acres, it was a peaceful afternoon, birds chirping, squirrels chasing each other, the Seahawks just secured their conference... then BOOM! Airbag deployment on both driver and passenger side, full curtains front and back... so on top of still not solving the SOS issue and 911 auto calling, now it thinks it has actually been in an accident and is completely disabled... nothing works... except of course calling 911.
I talked to my local MB Shop and they said you have to replace the airbags because the system checks airbag sensor status at startup and there is no way to reset it. Any advice here? They want $600 per side for the parts, but funny enough they don't have experience installing and couldn't provide a labor estimate. They said usually the body shop does that before they get it for mechanical work.
I did talk to my friend who has a similar E class and he said they are easy to replace and he ordered from eBay for a lot less expensive. I have only been able to find one airbag driver side for about $200. Can anyone recommend someplace where I can purchase these?
