| Thoughts on Kia Optima | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | KrisTTBoda | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hey guys and Scotty. Are Kia Optimas really that bad? I have an aunt who lives in Florida and her neighbor has a 2015 model year Optima 4-cylinder. She bought it new and frequently shares posts on social media about the car such as... I should have never bought this car. Broke down on the highway...again. Had to get it towed. Here in Europe we have the Kia Optima, too, but you can't buy one new anymore. It has been discontinued a few years ago. For the European market it was made in South Korea, the US version is assembled in Georgia, I believe. The fun ... | |||||
| Kia Sorento Brakes | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | MrBob | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotti I have a 2019 Kia Sorento. Alright stop laughing. On the last inspection my mechanic said it will need brakes pretty soon. Here is my question. You need to spread pads apart to allow clearance to remove the caliper. In the past on other cars I have simply pried the brake pads apart before removing the caliper pins and the displaced brake fluid backs up into the master cylinder. I learned the hard way to suck some fluid out of the reservoir so it does not overflow and make a mess. Recently I heard that's not a good idea. It can damage the ABS modu ... | |||||
| What do you think of Hyundai/Kia's latest push to silence customer complaints? | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | infamousvector | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty,Long time listener, first time caller... Since you are the only one with the balls to post videos telling the truth about auto manufacturers wrongs, what do you think of Hyundai/Kia enforcing individual arbitration for customers that have car defect complaints? Currently happening to California customers, but who knows, the company might just decide to take this mainstream. Here's a post that explains it all: Hyundai and Kia Seek to Enforce Individual Arbitration Against Customers In a nutshell, reducing consumer rights. | |||||
| Answer to: Dodge vs Nissan vs Kia | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| That's a hard question. The Dodge before 2020 probably was the worst, things got a bit better after they switched to a ZF 8HP. The Maxima has a very weak CVT, but a very decent engine. The Kia has a bad engine but the transmission is a proven copy of a ZF 8HP. What's the most likely to have tons of issues? the Fiat Chrysler Dodge. What's the most likely to have a complete breakdown early on (probably during the warranty)? the Kia. What's the most likely to cost you many thousands in major drivetrain component repair? the Nissan. They're all bad in ... | |||||

| ... engines blow up. This was also the biggest reason why I decided I wanted to try and be hopeful that I could go to an honest dealership and pick up a used yaris. I just hope that by purchasing and extended warranty outside of the one that dealership gives you will be enough to cover when or if my engine blows up. And as the second owner of a Kia Rio, I can't take advantage of that 10-year warranty sadly. But congrats! | |||||
| Answer to: Should I buy a new Kia Rio 2022 | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I've owned two cars based on the Rio, and sadly my answer is "probably not in the US". The current model, is said to discontinue after this model year, making it less valuable (source) In most non-mainland Europe markets, Hyundai-Kia didn't offer a good powertrain. Powertrains on this car are either a hit or miss (There's no average options): THE BAD: 1.0 T-GDi are oil burners with questionable overall reliability 1.2 MPi are reliable, but underpowered for this car. 1.6 Gamma GDi seem to wear out early on (around 100,000 miles) CVT gearboxes had a lot of low millage failures - it's still unclear what's going on. DCT in general most are terrible, and Hyundai-Kia's are some of the worst. THE GOOD: The 1.6 MPi is a solid simple engine, according to some sources they easily to over 300k miles. The 1.4 MPi is also very solid and efficient, It's a bit underpowered but it's a beauty. 4/6 Speed automatics are solid if (and only if) serviced frequently and correctly. Other then that, and some minor EPS bearing issues (there's a TSB out of it and the repair is simple), with the correct powertrain, and for the correct price (no where near a similar Toyota) these are not bad at all. | |||||
| Answer to: Should I buy this used Kia Rio | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I've had two cars based on the Kia Rio so I'm quite familiar with them. The Kia Rio was overall a decent car, but unlike the rest of the world, in the US they had a GDi engine - making it a gamble. What to check: Use the dipstick to check ATF condition, verify that the transmission was serviced and shifts smooth. Check the steering, play and banging are common. Dry/Wet compression and cylinder liner boroscoping are a must on a Hyundai-Kia Gamma engine. If all of these check out, a mechanic gives you the green light, and you don't drive much, It can b ... | |||||
| Answer to: Hyundai & Kia catching fire | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | MrBob | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| How do you find yours in a shopping mall parking lot? Look for the smoke. Santa drives a Kia Sorento. It's parked outside his Florida vacation retreat. He put a GDI turbo emblem on the back door so would be thieves would pass his up and steal one of his neighbors cars. I have had two potential fire hazards on the 4 Hyundai/Kia's I have owned. Luckily I found them before they went up. One was a leak in the fuel rail on a 2011 SantaFe. Fuel was being spraying all over the engine compartment. The second was on my Sorento which was brand new at the time. The ... | |||||

| ... hubs on my 2019 Sorento under warranty as part of the drive train. Took a lot of phone calls and threats. They wanted to sell me all this stuff I did not need. They don't get paid much for warranty repairs so they will try to sell you stuff they make money on. Fixing the car is secondary. I had one dealer demand a $90 deposit on warranty work just in case Kia failed to pay them. All the dealers are doing it. Tell them you want the hubs checked. You can narrow it down which one by having someone in the back seat while you drive. They can listen to where the ... | |||||

| Since most of my friends have Kia here in Kuwait and one of my earlier colleague had a Kia Cadenza 2017, I will advise the truth as it is . The good : A good car on the budget. Quite and excellent ride if you buy new. The features are worth for the price. Good fuel economy even for the V6 engines unlike European or American cars. The bad: Although the parts are shared, still has problems with the engine on the long run unlike Hyundai which takes some more thousand miles before something could happen. The Ugly: Whilst the engine and Transmission are less ... | |||||

| ... my car. It was just a matter of moving a wire on a connector under the dash board from one pin to another. I did it and now the homelink mirror works the way I prefer. If the car is off the garage door opener is disabled. There are a bunch of different models of mirror with home link. They all seem to be made by gentex. Just about every automaker offers one as an option. The fix would be different for every model of mirror and car. Don't attempt this unless you know what your doing. Disconnect the battery while making any wiring changes. So far the only ... | |||||
| Answer to: 2021 Kia Forte GT reverse gear problem | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| If your car is under warranty, go to the dealer to replace your gearbox - as it sounds to me, it's probably done. If you aren't covered under warranty, manual gearboxes on Hyundai-Kia cars are usually not bad at all, assuming there is no TCM or funny business like there is on some newer cars - Buying a junk yard one and installing, IMO, it isn't such a huge risk. As far as I know the Forte came the M6CF1 (check what's written on your bell housing! I could be wrong. - that's where identification symbols are located on Hyundai-Kia manuals) and it shouldn't be hard to find one like that in a junkyard with reasonable milage. I don't recommend ones with over 100k - on a Hyundai-Kia manual you MUST replace the fluid every ±60k miles or otherwise bearings will begin to whine. | |||||

| My Friend has a Kia sportage 2012 model. 193k miles on that and still going strong. He has not replaced anything except for a few things like bulbs and shocks. He drives average of 65 miles daily. They are never like Honda or Toyota in product quality but definitely something if you want it in budget. However my friend who works as service advisor in Kia advises models from 2017 have continuous issues especially with the engine. They improved the interiors but are having a hard time perfecting the engine.! If you have unlimited warranty scheme, t ... | |||||
| Dealer Sucked The Life out of my Kia ! | 15Relevance | 4 years ago | MrBob | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Mr Bob Asks Good Evening Mr Kilmer Recently I watched as the dealer sucked the oil out of my 2021 Kia Sorento through the dip stick hole with a suction hose. The Kia service manual says to drain the oil using the drain plug. I understand the oil suction machine they use is not exclusive to Kia but is also used by Toyota, Honda and a lot of the quick oil change places. While convenient and efficient it seems that it would leave the heaviest of particulates in the bottom of the oil pan behind. My question is have you ever used one of these Fomoto drain va ... | |||||

I will say the V6 Sorento is a gas hog but who cares. My wive uses it for grocery shopping around town. Once a year I will use it to tow my boat to Lake George.
