| Answer to: Is the 2012 Genesis Coupe a good first car? | 9Relevance | 4 years ago | Dad2LM2 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Welcome first time poster! Agree with the above. Run away. Korean cars, especially of that vintage, have a reputation for going rancid around 70-80,000 miles, which is likely why the seller is getting rid of it (regardless what he says is the reason). And @mmj is right, Scotty has mentioned this in many videos over the years. If you are looking for a compact coupe, I would consider: Scion tC. Super reliable. Inexpensive to maintain. You should be able to find one in any budget. Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86. Certainly gonna be a little more expen ... | |||||
| Answer to: 2001 Volvo C70 as a first car? | 9Relevance | 4 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| nope. The first generation is based on the Volvo 850 - no one knows how to fix one. The second generation is based on Ford's C-car platform - these are still somewhat relevant. On a 2nd gen C70, T5 with a 6 speed automatic or a manual and you're off to the races Make sure it's under 100k miles, that you can get parts, and that everything works. only 89,074 of these were made - how ever still remain is a mystery (but I'd assume under 5k-10k worldwide) So if something in that roof system is broken, or if you need a body panel or some obsolete part - GO ... | |||||

When I first start up my car and start going, I can press the gas as much as I want but it will not go past about 20mph for the first five minutes, then it will drive fine for the rest of the days. Sometimes it seems like it will last longer then 5 minutes, othertimes It will last less then 5, but for the majority it's about 5 minutes. Also I cannot for whatever reason go past 70 on the freewa ...
| Answer to: Attending my first car auction, tips and strategy advise appreciated! | 9Relevance | 3 years ago | MountainManJoe | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| It's risky business. Avoid auction cars if you don't know what you're doing. Auctions are shark tanks where dealers go to buy wholesale inventory, and prey on novices by driving up prices on junkers. It's not for Joe public buying one-offs. It takes a lot of experience to be able to appraise a car on sight like they do. There's a pretty high probability of ending up with a dud. because they're professional salesmen. They're experts at spit&shining and selling jalopies to unsuspecting buyers. And they probably buy large quantities to mitigate their risk. If one car ends up being a loss, they can cover the loss by marking up another good car. Law of averages. If you're only buying one car, there is a significant chance of ending up with a dud Read our car buying guide in the FAQ. Watch the videos there. readiness monitors, misfire counts, pretty much all the engine sensor values. That's just the basic stuff. you can't set a limit before when you're thinking clearly. | ... I know some vibration is normal, but this vibration was so bad I could hear the dash was rattling. Also, the car would lunge forward and backward when I would put the car into drive and reverse. So my mechanic told me that it cold be something with either the transmission or motor mounts. So he told me to take it up to the dealership because at the time it was still covered under warranty. I made an appointment on Apple Honda in York PA and they first told me it had to do with my Sirius XM radio causing the problem. I told them it was a bunch of BS and I me ... | |||||

| Hey Scotty been a fan of your videos for a really long time and it is finally time for my teenage self to get my first car, I am looking at an automatic 2014 Lexus IS350 base model with 78k miles on it from a private dealer and I have negotiated the price from 23k to 20k. I used an OBD scanner and the codes were fine and there were no negative codes. I had a mechanic check it out and he didn't jack up the car but he used a bright flashlight to inspect all around the car and inside the engine bay. He told me that the car is in good condition and there are no ... | |||||

I can’t take it back, and I have no way of having someone look at it before I buy it, which is a huge problem obviously. You see, this car is going to get me in trouble. When I was younger I was really into them, and despite knowing their flaws I can’t really escape my fixation. | cars, … like the ones you listed are pretty good "first" cars! I would place them as far as preference: Toyota, Honda, … Mazda bit distant third, unless you prefer a bit larger car. Mazda6 is. Pricing: … I can’t chime in on that since I’m in Canada. Our prices are much, much higher all around. Anyway, … notice I said above, "like the ones you listed" - emphasis on “like". Now, … see if you can locate one or two "likes”, … say, being offered for sale in your area privately, perhaps? Big savings potential if you have time on your hands. If not, … take at least two on your list for a prolong test drive - say, at least 30-45 minutes mix drive - slow, fast, stop and go, rough pavement, drive them more assertively than you normally drive, … than walk away from each drive for a bit - this is vital. Make note who is trying harder to stop you from waking away, … but don’t stop walking! Most often, … on a used car lots, those who try harder are more motivated to get rid of the car. | Is it smart to buy this Lexus 2003 SC430 with 250K miles as my sons first car? | 9Relevance | 5 years ago | akini12 | Submit Your Question HERE
| Hey Scotty, Thank you for all the information that you provide on your channel! I saw the video that you made on the Lexus SC430 and was taken by it's luxurious and stylish aesthetic. I am currently trying to find a good cheap car for my son as he is turning 17 very soon! I saw this Lexus SC430 on car Guru and wanted to know if it was a smart idea to buy this car. It has about 250K miles and I was able to negotiate the car down to $3,000. The Solara, the Toyota version of this car, is about $1,000 cheaper, but it is obviously not as stylish. Anyways, could you please take a look at this car and let me know if this car is good. While looking at the car, please don't take price into consideration. Just please advice me based off of the reliability of the car and the maximum amount of miles it will go. Thanks, Your Biggest Fan | |||||

Today I finally got my car back from the repair shop (It had been there for a week because the mechanic couldn't figure out what was wrong with it) When I was buying the car, I thought it would be very reliable and expected it to last ( I thought I was getting a good deal, it had only 59 000 original kilometres on it.) However, I ended up hating the car. It caused me many problems during my 11 months of ownership. Collectively, I have ...
| Answer to: Is the Toyota 2022 hybrid LE a good car especially for a first time car buyer? | 9Relevance | 4 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| It's a Prius based car. Same platform, the 1.8L hybrid is the same powertrain, but the battery is a different size. It's best to get one that's made in Japan - but Toyota QC is still high no matter where they're made. It's not the most efficient hybrid, it's much more efficient than petrols and it doesn't compromise on reliability! It's a good balance between being reliable, durable, and efficient - highly recommended. Although, if new Priuses are still available, the Prius Plug-in is a slightly better choice. But I would defiantly go for the Corolla over the regular Prius. You are going to want to read all the paper work, and watch YouTube videos to make sure you're ready. Make sure you're getting the free 8 year battery warranty, and that it has all the features you need! Make sure you're ready that the dealer is going to play tricks and try to upsell you on crap you don't need. | |||||

| Scotty, I am getting close to buying my very first car (yay). But, I am not interested in new cars, but rather classic cars. When my father asked me what vehicle I am planning to by I told him a classic, but all he told me was I shouldn't. Here is just some of the reasons he told me not to buy one: >They are death traps >Gas millage is bad (I can agree with this one) > There is no safety systems like ABS, traction control, airbags etc. > The brakes on those cars are very different and require a special "tactic" to use them or else they will ... | |||||
