| Purchasing 2011 Nissan Leaf, what should I look for? | 27Relevance | 3 years ago | David650 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I live in California, and will be purchasing a used 2011 nissan leaf with around 50-60k miles on it shortly, and I was wondering if I should avoid cars without frequent servicing? how often should this vehicle have been serviced during this time? A lot of cars seem to have only been serviced 5-6 times, is this normal? Also battery degradation doesn't bother me. Thank You, -David | |||||

| I just checked and the price to replace the 2013 nissan leaf battery pack with new is $15,000. That would buy a lot of even high priced gasoline. | |||||

| As someone who has a 2017 Focus Electric, it's not a very practical vehicle considering it's a hatchback. If you value practicality, I would buy the leaf. In terms of reliability, I feel like the Focus is better because the battery is water-cooled unlike the passively cooled battery in the nissan. I currently have under 49 000 km on the original battery and we barely spent money on repairs. | |||||

| Well they are electric cars that are simple. Now if we take Scotty's words he says that they are a lot better made than the gasoline cars. Or it could be that most leaf owners don't put many miles on it. I made a mistake by writing "everything else the same." If you buy a leaf, there range is not the best you most likely put a low amount of daily city driving. With that miles, you could get maybe double the age than a Sentra or something. Carcomplaints is down but I would also want to check that out but I remember it to be rated highly. Now when it comes to ownership I would hate to own a leaf because of its range and safety but........ I am getting off topic. Frontier is my answer for now. | |||||

| I see a couple things that make me think the leaf is a better choice - it was designed to be an electric, rather than a IC car with the electric parts adapted to it, nissan dealers support them with parts (per a co-worker who has owned a couple). He recommended that whichever you want to buy, have the battery tested to make sure it is in good condition and will have a good service life. | |||||

| It's sad reality that nissan could go out of business. The nissan Rogue has always been a crapshoot with their CVT and front-wheel-drive automatic transmissions made by Jatco, for example. nissan was originally known as Datsun and it was the Japanese who originally owned the company. They were almost on par with Toyota and Honda in the late '80s and most of the '90s. Renault, a French company bought them out in around 2000, and their decline started. They still made halfway decent RWD vehicles for a little bit longer, using remnants of technology developed ... | |||||

| I knew a guy who bought a used leaf from Carmax and got the extended warranty. Ended up having to replace the charging port, about $2000. Good move on the warranty. | |||||
