| Looking at getting a new Accord. The price difference between a hybrid and non-hybrid (1.5T engine) is about $600. Is the hybrid Accord more reliable in the long run since it has an NA, port injected motor instead of the turbo charged motor in the non-hybrid? Or, does the extra systems in the hybrid driveline negate any advantages gained in having an NA motor? Looking to keep the car up to 200,000 miles. | |||||

My Prius averaged 17K per year, with its younger days at 20K per year. The car you are looking at seems to be around 10K-12K per year, which means the car is moving. 5K per year is too low for a hybrid, imho. | The latest generation of Honda hybrids are different than previous generation Honda hybrids and current generations Toyota hybrids. The Honda hybrid acts more like an EV with a gas generator rather than a traditional hybrid. In usual hybrids like the Prius hybrid and Toyota technology, the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and the electric motor go back and forth, throughout most speed ranges. The ICE actually drives the car. With the Honda hybrid and Insight, the electric motor drives the car until about 45 MPH, and then the ICE may take over. The ICE acts more like a generator than actually drive the car below 45 MPH. So you basically have an gas powered EV, similar to a hydrogen powered EV, for anything below 45 MPH. One of the biggest benefits of the latest Honda hybrid technology, is that when the engine does run, it is operating at near peak efficiency and rev range when compared to regular cars and even Toyota hybrids. It's compelling technology, but not as time tested as Toyota hybrid technology. Honda is a company that focuses on quality, so I would be open to an Honda hybrid. I know other on the forum like to see how things pan out the first few years of a model before jumping on board. If you want tried and true, the hybrid technology in the Toyota has been battle tested for almost 20 years. If you are willing to take a chance on compelling new hybrid technology (practically an electronic vehicle) from a trusted company, go Insight. I am a little more adventurous, so I would probably go Insight (and I currently have a Gen 2 Prius.) With that said if you were going to get a hybrid, the only two companies I would get them from is Honda and Toyota. | |||||

| Congratulations on your soon to be retirement! All are great choices. Based on the latest generations. Here are some nuances. My personal preference: CRV >>> RAV4 >> NX > RDXI much prefer a simple and intuitive user interface and especially tactile feedback for A/C controls. The CRV best fits this requirement by far. While the RAV4 interface is tacticle, the small row of buttons make it hard to use. The NX and RDX have horrible interfaces, NX is just one big screen, which frustrates me. And the RDX is like a mousepad. Not to mention, ... | |||||

| You’ll get better gas mileage than comparable ICE vehicles, but not necessarily the EPA ratings. EPA ratings are not exact for ICE or hybrids. But they do give you a good idea relative to each others ratings. I usually recommend Toyota hybrids over any other hybrid, even Honda. Toyota has 20 years of time tested hybrid technology. Prius technology has made it across their entire fleet. BUT, Honda has a compelling hybrid technology. It is their third attempt at creating a hybrid system, and it is significantly different than their Honda predecessors, and even Toyota. Honda predecessors weren’t necessarily bad in terms of quality. They just weren’t as popular as Toyota’s technology. Current generation Honda hybrids are basically an EV but get its power from gasoline. Very fascinating. If it is was any other company I probably wouldn’t give it a second look, but it is Honda, a company known for quality and longevity. Toyota hybrids usually split the duty of propelling the vehicle between the ICE and the electric motor. If you want tried and true, go with a Toyota hybrid. If you are willing to take a chance, go with the Honda hybrid. Heck, drive them both and see what you like better. | By just looking at the Toyota msrp prices and comparing the LE trim with the LE trim but hybrid, the hybrid is $2500 ish more expensive. So right out of the gate that's $2500 more for the hybrid so you should see if you'll be driving enough and saving enough gas to make up for just this initial price difference. Then there is the fact that hybrid cars are more complex than gasoline only cars so there is more that can go wrong and also cost more to fix. Also, when the battery would need to be replaced that is not cheap either. But given these and what other people have said here, if you want to get a hybrid then a hybrid made by Toyota is the best option because they've been making hybrid for a long time and they know how to make it right. | |||||

| For hybrid, I usually recommend Toyota, and for compact/mid sized SUV, the RAV4 hybrid. Which is a great vehicle, based on the Camry hybrid platform. Which is a pretty resilient platform. But I got to ride in a Honda CRV hybrid, and I was totally amazed by the whole package. The interior, the exterior, the ride quality. And the hybrid technology itself is compelling, because it is practically an EV below 45 mph. Above 45 mph, it uses the gas engine. | Most likely, the hybrid battery needs to be replaced. Usually when all those crazy lights show up at the same time, alongside the P0A80 code, it is time for the hybrid battery to be replaced. The three other codes are most likely related to this code, and changing the hybrid battery may solve all the codes. There is a slight chance that all the codes a separate problems. If indeed it is just the hybrid battery and nothing else, I recommend Green Bean battery. They come to your house and swap out your battery for a refurbished and rebalanced battery pack. But there may be another option. How many miles do you have on the car? If it is less than 150,000 miles, and you are within the warranty window of 10 years, you may be able to get a hybrid battery for free*** at the dealer. But it had to meet certain mileage requirements and year requirements. (Please double check the figures in your owners manual, I am just going by memory on 10 years / 150,000 miles.) This is actually one of the few times I recommend going to the dealer… to see if it is covered under warranty, assuming your car fits the requirements for warranty. If you want to take it a step further, maybe bite the bullet and get an oil change at the dealer, so they actually take your car in, instead of looking the warranty information up on the computer. If it is not covered under warranty, they will surely try to diagnose and sell you a super expensive hybrid battery. You can then grill them to see if it is indeed just the hybrid battery or if there are other issues from the other codes. But if it is just the hybrid battery, you can just decline and take it to Green Bean. | |||||

If they do, they wouldn't be buying an SUV. Highlander hybrid: The most pointless. People in big SUV's don't care about fuel economy in the slightest.
