| To buy or not to buy a 2004 RAV4 with low miles | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | Alan222 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello everyone, I've been a fan of Scotty for a while but this is my first time posting here. I was hoping to get some opinions/advice on buying a manual transmission 2004 Toyota RAV4 with 53,000 miles for $10,000 as a daily driver. It's being sold at a dealership and has only had one owner that resided in Maryland. I think the price is high but my main worry is the age to mile ratio. There are no real maintenance records but according to the Carfax it was at least driven to emission inspections every 2 years since 2007. What are your opinions on buying a close to 20 year old vehicle with such low miles on it? Since the car is from the salt belt I would inspect it for rust and the usual checks but is there something I should look out for on mostly stationary vehicles like this one? I plan on taking it to an independent mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection but wanted to know if any of you had any experience with older cars with low mileage. I appreciate any advice you guys have, thanks for the time. - Alan | |||||
| Answer to: 2008 Volkswagen Jetta SE as a first car? | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | Kerem | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| 2006 Volkswagen Jetta opinions 2009 Volkswagen Jetta opinions "I don't know much about VWs" Ok so, Volkswagen is a German car brand with a "german engineering!" mindset, so their cars are always overengineered and complicated. They cost a lot of money to maintain and repair. They put Audi, Porshce, Lambo, Bentley... technology into cheap little Jettas, and put cheap Jetta quality into expensive products. Now they do look and drive nice. But if you care about your money, get a 2003-2013 Toyota Corolla instead. Whatever car you consider, make sure to have a mechanic check it out before buying. | |||||
| New EV company scamming investors? | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | JohnnyETX | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello I was just wondering your opinions about a new EV company called Atlis Motor Vehicles based out of Mesa Arizona. Their product they are advertising is a heavy duty truck that is fully electric, has a 500 mile range, can be fully charged in 15 minutes and can tow up to 35,000 pounds. They even said the price would start at around $45,000. They’ve even claimed that the vehicle would go 1,000,000 miles with regular maintenance. The CEO of the brand claims he has a new superior type of battery technology that he developed during his time spent in his old profession manufacturing tasers, however he doesn’t seem to have any history in vehicle engineering. They also claim several other things about the vehicle that seem like it may be too good to be true. Normally I wouldn’t pay much attention until I see a physical product, however they are actively asking for and taking large investments from people. They say the vehicle will be available for sale in 2022. They have had a lot of coverage from several large sources like motortrend and TFL, and I am curious about the legitimacy of this company. Since I’ve followed this story I see people on YouTube and social media all the time talking about how excited they are for the innovation this company is making and how they are investing heavily into this brand, and I do not see a lot of people calling them out or bringing up any speculations. Any thoughts or opinions? | |||||
| Answer to: Getting a truck already own a car | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | Kerem | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I'm sorry if I misunderstood your question or points I'm a bit tired but here are some of my thoughts:Keep the Subaru, the first and most significant thing to fail is the transmission, and you have it replaces and it should last you a while more. You are in a budget, so I would also like to put forth the late 2000s+ Nissan Frontier (yes I know smaller truck) as those are decent trucks. If you are between the Tundra and F-150, I'd go Tundra all day long if you can find one in good shape for 10 grand. For the F-150, best case scenario would be a low mileage 2011-2014 with the 5.0 V8. Avoid all F-150s with the 3 valve engines, especially the 5.4. Please don't buy a V6 or 4 cylinder F-150. In fact, I wouldn't even consider the F-150 if you aren't doing heavy towing and can't find a good Tundra. Just search this forum for opinions on the F-150 and Tundra on the top right and you will see the difference in opinions. | |||||

| Hi! any honest opinions about the car? not as a commuter but as weekend car i know some have bad opinions about hyundais' reliablity but they are quite decent in their smaller cars, and i seen hyundai claims the G6BA 2.7l engine to be able to last 300k km i would assume the first thing to go at a high milage car is the transmission, 4 speed automatic, does anyone have any experience with these trans and how much can they last in moderate driving? | |||||

| Search for where the fluid is coming from with UV fluorescent dye that's compatible with power steering fluid and fix that. Then, completely drain and refill the power steering fluid. | |||||
