We are working on a 1999 Honda Accord LX 4 Door 2.3L VTEC F23A1                                  VIN JHMCG5648XC035263 4 speed Auto Trans, 88,393 miles, built Saitama, JAPAN.

No start for a long time, 2018. Pulled codes on 11/28/18: P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and of course P0420. Was misfiring very little while driving on mid 2018. No codes as of May 2023 with Autel MaxiDiag MD808 Pro Car Diagnostic Scan Tool. Scan tool did make it run weak for about 15 seconds when I adjusted the throttle. No restart. From 2018 it will start and run very weak for 5 seconds then dies and will not restart until next attempt days later. Battery 12+ volts. New distributor installed January 2019. New OEM wires installed 2015. Has spark on all 4 plugs. Plugs are new also but somewhat sooty, a little wet, due to no start? Pulled injectors 2023, has fuel at all injectors, about 39-40 psi at the rail. Noid light good on all injector connectors. New timing belt, water pump, all parts under the front cover installed March 2013, ran normally after that repair until 2018. Main relay tests good. TPS tests good. Coolant temp sensor tests good. Crank sensor and cam sensor test good. Pulled valve cover 2020, cam gear and crank gear are in correct position. Compression on 11/28/2018 was: Dry #1 212, #2 205, #3 210 and #4 215 ~ Wet #1 250+, #2 250+, #3 250+ and #4 250+. Dropped exhaust pipe 2018, still no start with no Cat. Got ECM code from dealer to drive it in 2019, still no start. Bought a USED ECM 2022 pulled the immobilizer from the board. Still no start. Please help. We need this car to run. The truck, 1990 GMC K3500 7.4L just spun the crank at 95,000+. Thank you very much. Aloha,  [personal info redacted]

Is the fuel you use from 2018 too?

When 'yes' try fresh stuff!

"running weak and dying after 6 seconds" for me points to no fuel/air-mix that can burn...

despite that, bad fuel will wet the plugs too.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry to be so slow with this comment. It is still not running. Paid 35 bucks to JustAnswer and they told us to change the fuel pressure regulator, no change. Then the fuel pump as it was putting out 39 psi. Now the new pump is putting out 52 psi and the vehicle will still not start. Thank you again for you help. We will try fresh fuel. Starting fluid will not make it run. This is a sad little car. Aloha.

No Start Honda Accord

I have a 1999 Honda Accord. Not sure if these might be your same problem, but at least it will give you ideas of what to cross off, if you haven’t already.

The times my car didn’t start, there were the following culprits:

  • Starter. I got it working by hitting on it, which was indicative that the starter needed to be changed.
  • Relay under the dash. There is this relay under the steering wheel. I don’t know the proper name for it, it was about the length of a business card, and the height of ⅓ of a business card.
  • Something in the fuel pump. Ended up just changing the whole fuel pump assembly in the tank.

Thank you for your reply. Still a no start. New pump did not help. It is a crank no start. 52 psi at the rail with the new pump. Pump is running. Injectors are spraying fuel. Has spark at all four plugs. Thank you again for your message.

I agree with the comments about fuel issues, old gas can gum up things, especially if it had ethanol in it.

I think you already did it, but have the old fuel pumped out, and I would change your fuel filter as well, it could be nasty.

I am guessing you checked the engine air filter, it could have who knows what in it?
