Got a 2005 S-Type 2.7 6 speed manual with 211K miles on, and I used to do about 15 thousand miles a year, but my new job means I'll be doing up to 35 thousand miles a year, is it still a stupid idea to keep spending money keeping it on the road, or should I just get a lease on a new car do to that mileage? Owned it since 2006 and would be sad to see it go, it's also been quite reliable during this time, except for the cost of servicing and the timing belt.
I agree with above answers in general. However, you like the car. Just get another car for daily, like Camry, and use the Jag only occasionally for your pleasure. This would, imo, maximize the value to you. But don't even attempt to use it for the miles expected as any amount of money, which will still be a lot, to prevent/decrease chances of breakdown on the road.
Oh Yes get rid of that thing right away those things are money pits as they age and its going to start to fall apart if you don't
Either drive it til the wheels fall off or get rid of it. If you have to put in a large amount of money into I would sell it. Maybe you could drive it until it has major issues and then sell it but i don't know.
Thanks guys for your answers. Decided I'm still going to keep the car, had it almost 15 years now and don't really want to sell it, and it's not worth much. Will be looking at getting an XF or an XE 3.0 TD on a 2 year lease and then keep switching every 2 years for work, and use the S-Type for personal and leisure use.
Just a thought, maybe if you still want luxury in a similar sized car, get a BMW 540, it is reliable at the very least compared to a Jag. Even a Lexus, but I can understand wanting something a little sportier than a Lexus, but just look into the 540 it is similar in size.
@jagjack That's what I would do. But remember, your gonna get a work car so think roi for yourself... cheapest lease car you can tolerate. And this is one case where a lease (new for reliability (usually)) makes sense to me. And keep enjoying the jag : )
